Grand Island Lawn Mower Race Rules
This is a family event - sportsman ship, courtesy to your fellow contestants is the main objective of the event. All rules must be followed at all times for everyone's safety.
*Kids Bubble Mowers* (4-10yrs of age)
A bubble mower class for kids 4-10 yrs old will be part of the event this year!! All kids will receive an award. ($10 entry fee).
Any un modified riding lawnmower up to 30 hp. must be able to cut grass in its current condition, no pulley changes or governor tampering, must have origional size tires. Blade engagement must be rendered inoperable by the driver, or the tech department. long pants preferred, no open toed shoes
1980 or older, No pulley or governor modifications please, modified mowers should run in there respective modified classes. Cutting blades need to be inoperable by owner or tech. Long pants prefered, no open toed shoes
1 Cyl Mod
Any (1) one cylinder powered lawn mower. must be lawn and garden engine, modifications are allowed to chassis, frame and body, must be self starting, , no direct drive, no power adders allowed, ctv clutches allowed to 10 hp max. return throttle and deadmans or teather required, all saftey gear required
2 cyl Mod
Up to two cylinder (two spark plugs) One engine. Max origional hp 25, modifications to frame, engine, and drive allowed. Wheelbase may be altered, may have lowered ride height, must be lawn and garden engine, governor may be disconnected, no snowmobile, atv, or "altenitave" engines. Ctv clutches allowed up to 12 hp. Must start by recoil or electric, no remote starting. Direct drive prohibited. Must have functioning exhaust. must run on gasoline, Deck not required. Steering must be strengthed to withstand increased speeds.No power adders such as nitrous oxide, turbos or superchargers. Deadmans or teather required. presence of braking system required. Throttle or accelerator must return to idle on its own, throttle spring required! long pants, leather jacket, and helmet required, gloves prefered. 2 per race,,,
Must be a lawnmower theme, NO GOLF CARTS,ATV'S,OR SNOWMOBILES. MUST BE A LAWNMOWER THEME!I. Modifications allowed, suspension, front or rear is not allowed, no farm tractors. Any drive allowed. Any lawnmower engine allowed, "Snowmobile power. one engine, max 600cc, only 1 expansion chamber allowed on 2 stroke engines, "Y"pipe must be between the engine and expansion chamber ,ATV/motorcycle power ;600cc max four
stroke. 600cc two stroke.Exhaust must be silenced, NO OPEN PIPES allowed. Power adders such as Nitrous oxide, turbos, superchargers, are not allowed. "Auto tranneys" are prohibited.Brakes required, must run on gasoline, or diesel, No alternitave fuels. deadmans or teather required, full saftey gear required. Chassis must be modified in a way that it will safely operate. Throttle return required' 2 per race,,,,
Must be a front engine lawn tractor frame and body, all entrants must have a hood, rear fenders and running bards from a lawn tractor, or exact replacements.
Stock frame MUST be used where ever possible!! frame may be altered only to achieve wheel base dimensions, engine mounting, or drive/transmission mounting
Body panels may be "trimmed" to accept engine, exhaust and tire modifications
Min. wheel base 48", Max wheel base 56" center to center. Max width 42" outside to outside on tires, no min.
Drivers seating surface must be a min of 18" off the ground
Brakes on rear axle required, teather, deadmans or seat switch required, d.o.t. helmet and protective jacket and gloves required.
All entries must run on pump gas, 93 octane max, no race fuel or alcohol will be allowed. No performance enhancing additives may be used that may "oxygenate" the fuel. No nitrous oxide or powder adders of any kind will be allowed!!
All belts and chains must be guarded in a way that they will not contact the driver or any spectators in the event of a failure.
Min. tire diameter on the front is 13", max is 16". Min rear tire size is 16" diameter, mas is 22" diameter.
Min weight for this class will be 570LBS with driver.
Max wheelie bar length not to exceed the wheel base of the mower. Chassis strengthening is allowed, excessive lightening is not allowed.
All engines must have been Available in a 1998 model year or previous, engine may be newer, but must utilize "1998 technology or older. All engines must be their factory size, no "big bore", or "stroking" of any engine in this class to raise the cc. or horsepower. Ex. no 340cc with 440cc cylinders, no 400cc with a "stroker crank", etc. No excotic engines!!!
1. any (2) cylinder air cooled snowmobile engine 503cc max. No power valve reed valve, or rotary valve engine allowed. Piston port engines only!! engines must retain a stock (from the factory) "Y" Pipe, and have one expansion chamber or can muffler. Expansion chamber mufflers can only have (1) outlet, can or non expansion chamber muffler are allowed(2) outlets. Dual or twin pipes will not be allowed!! Exhaust must be "silenced", no drag or open exhaust. If an engine came from the factory with twin pipes, this engine will not be allowed in competition. Cylinder porting is prohibited, and will be checked. Max carb size is (2) 38mm carbs, or (1) 44mm carb, all carbs must be round slide or butterfly style. No "carb boring" or "carb Rifling".
No flat side or race carbs allowed. Oem snowmobile clutches allowed only. no billet or "team clutches, max 3 weights in primary clutch. "4 shooter clutches" not allowed. est hp. not to exceed 65hp.
2. any single (1) cylinder 500cc liquid cooled motorcycle, snowmobile, atv, dirt bike engine. Cylinder porting, exhaust and carb changes allowed. A stock gear box must be retained and must be shifted manually with the use of a clutch. Pump gas(max 93 octane) must be used, no race fuel or alternative fuels. Exhaust must be silenced, no open drag pipes may be used. est hp. not to exceed 70hp
3. "Harley engines" most applications legal, must be run on pump gas. est hp. not to exceed 80hp.
4. lawn and garden engines, no billet blocks, must run on pump gas all other modifications legal. est hp. not to exceed 70hp.
No driver who has consumed any alcohol on the day of the event may participate in a practice or race event. No alcohol beverages may be consumed by any driver, pit crew or race staff before the end of the last race or on track activity. NO illegal drugs or controlled substances shall be tolerated on the event premises at any time.
Any violations of the above rules and the participant shall not only be disqualified from the day’s event but from all future events.
All contestants and mowers are required to stay in the pit area until they have completed their event.
Contestants and mowers will be assigned numbers which must be displayed until their event is completed.
No smoking is allowed in the pit area.
Contestants under the age of 18 must have parent or legal guardian sign a release / hold harmless agreement signed
No pets, unauthorized personal or debris of any kind is allowed on the race track.
Pets in the pits must remain on leash and the owner is responsible for the pets clean up.
Unsafe track or off track driving practices or conduct will result in disqualification.
Only one contestant on a lawnmower at a time and there shall be no horse play in the pits or on the track.
All drivers must attend the drivers meeting and answer the roll call.
Drivers are responsible for the conduct of his or her guests.
The race track will be no longer than 300’ and be lined with either wooden, vinyl or plastic fencing. Stakes shall be a minimum of 12’ apart. Fencing will extend at least 50’ beyond the start/ finish line. There will be no openings on either side of the 400’ fencing.
Tethered or any kill mechanism is required (any means acceptable to tech. committee to shut down mower in the event that the contestant is off the machine).
Every driver must wear an automobile racing or helmet approved by the US Department of Transportation. The helmet must fit snugly and be securely buckled.
Long pants, enclosed shoes and shirts are required on the track.
Starting will be done with the dropping of a flag at the starting line.
The winner will be declared by the first mower to cross the finish line observed by the “finish line” judge
His or her determination will be final and un-contested.
The winner of every heat will be awarded 500 points. Eliminations and the final races will be deceided on the point accumulation. Winners will be deceided upon the contestants with the most accumulated points.

Fuel is restricted to only pump gas – K 100 fuel treatment allowed and recommended for all contestants.
